Renault wants to build a cheaper version of the Dacia Logan, using the same platform for the new vehicle. The price of this car would be between 2000 and 4000 euro, declared Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Renault-Nissan, according to Financial Times.
The next generation of the Dacia Logan will be more competitive in the cost area. He also said that a cost of such cheap Dacia Logan would be between 2000 and 4000 euro (2600 dollars – 5200 dollars), but such a car can’t be sold in any country, due to safety regulations. Carlos Ghosn didn’t say when is Renault gonna launch this “ultra-cheap” car, but they mentioned that Renault is already working on this Dacia Logan based car. The announcement proves that Renault wants to continue competing with other brands like Toyota, Hyundai or Tata Motors, which announced that they will make cheaper cars destined to be used by consumers buying their first car. This came as they saw the success Renault had with Dacia Logan.
While Toyota plans to make a 6500 dollar car by 2010, while Tata Motors announced that they’ll make a 2000 euro car and launch it in 2008. Dacia Logan is starting to get competitors and Renault is not just gonna sit and watch their car lose the advantage. The Renault group sold last year 248.000 Dacia Logan worldwide.
