The auto market stagnated in Romania at the beginning of 2007. The internal producers, like Dacia Logan have registered a significant decline, while the importers sold more.
In January 2007 the auto market in Romania registered a very small decrease when compared with the similar month in 2006. 14.364 units were sold, down 0.04%. The most important internal car, the Dacia Logan sold around 14.000 units, of which 10.000 were exported. On the internal market, the sales of the Dacia Logan were reduced a lot, with only 4500 units sold, 3000 less then in January 2006. This is a 40% drop in Dacia Logan sales. These losses that the internal producers had, like the Dacia Logan, were covered almost in full by the importers.
And in other news, Renault wants to double the Dacia Logan production in its plant in Russia. By 2009 Renault wants the Dacia Logan to be one of the first three cars sold in the russian market. With an investment of 150 million euro, Renault wants to bring the total production capacity to 160.000 Dacia Logan per year. The increase in production will bring 1000 new workplaces, added to the 2400 already there. Last year, 49323 Dacia Logan were sold in Russia.
