Dacia Logan

The Dacia Logan is a cheap car produced by the romanian car manufacturer, Dacia, designed and produced under the direct supervision of Renault, also the owner of the company. The Dacia Logan was planned from the get go to be a low-cost (the 5000 euro car), subcompact, cheap car, designed and produced for the countries with lower purchasing power. Depending on the country where it’s sold, the Dacia Logan comes with either the badge Dacia or Renault.

The beggining of this project was marked in 1999, when Renault announced the Project X90, shortly after buying Dacia in 1998. Three main requierements were considered for this project, the new Dacia Logan beeing both modern, reliable and a cheap car. Everything else was negociable to drive the price down. While the initial price could not be met (base price is 6000 euros and it can get to 8500 with options), the result is still a cheap family car, more so then any other modern vehicle on the market today.

Launched in 2004, the new Dacia Logan quickly found buyers among the market from Western Europe aswell, where prices start around 7000 euros to reflect the bonus in protection equipment given to those cars. Still a cheap car, even with the bonus price for the western europe.
Dacia Logan is based on the B platform, also used by Renault for the Clio and Modus models and by Nissan for the new Micra. With about half the parts of a normal Renault model, and with a limited number of electronic devices, the Dacia Logan became a cheap car to make and repair.

The problem in a cheap car is that a lot of things are not exactly made to impress. The soundproofing of the Dacia Logan is far from perfect for example, with road vibrations and the engine sound beeing present at all times.

Since Dacia Logan entered production in 2004, there were made around ~250,000 models , while Dacia is estimating that it will reach 200,000/year with half of that going for export to countries looking for cheap cars.
